Nebula AI Case Explorer™ | What is Nebula AI Case Explorer™?

Nebula AI Case Explorer is KLDiscovery's generative AI-powered case intelligence tool, built on the Nebula platform. The goal: understand your case in hours, not days.

It reads your document set against a case summary you provide — the case background, allegations, and key parties — and automatically surfaces case insights: relevance scoring with reasoning for documents, key themes, key people, event timelines and storylines, document topic clusters, and key documents, and gives you the ability to dig deeper with Agentic Chat. All of this happens before a single Boolean search is needed or a single document is manually reviewed.

How it's different from Nebula Cull

Nebula Cull is built for targeted search — you know what you're looking for, and you use Boolean queries and facets to find it. AI Case Explorer provides a different way to understand what's in your data when you don't yet know what to search for. It reads your documents against your case summary and surfaces themes, key people, timelines, key documents, and clusters automatically. The output feeds directly back into Cull as new fields, so AI-generated insights become filters in your existing workflow — see Getting AI Case Explorer Results into Nebula.

How it's different from ECAi

ECAi is an AI-based document classification feature inside Cull that helps you categorize documents into themes. AI Case Explorer extends ECAi's capabilities dramatically — it is a purpose-built case intelligence platform with its own interface — generative AI rather than traditional ML, relevance scores with reasoning, an agree/disagree feedback loop, and no fixed one-job-at-a-time document universe.

Why you can trust its findings

AI Case Explorer is built so you can defend its output to a partner or a court:

  • Every relevance score comes with a specific, readable reason for that score.
  • Key People is organized into three tiers — Key Person, Custodian, and Other — so you can see everyone the AI noticed, not just who it selected. People the AI wasn't confident enough to flag as central are surfaced in "Other" rather than hidden.
  • You provide agree/disagree feedback as you review, and the system tracks your agreement rate — a concrete, citable number (e.g., "we reviewed 150 documents and agreed with the AI's relevance 93% of the time").
  • When an analysis is re-run, you see exactly what changed, and every version is retained. See AI Relevancy and Refining Your Case Summary and Project List and Version History.

Nebula AI Case Explorer enables legal teams to:

  • Gain insights by understanding key people, events, and documents with relevance scores the moment setup is complete. Teams can start right away and prioritize where to look first.
  • Get questions answered fast and perform deep agentic analysis grounded in the matter by asking Agentic Chat plain language questions.
  • Stay in control and trust the results due to the ability to evaluate the AI's relevancy decision on any document. Nebula AI Case Explorer tracks how often the team agrees with the AI's recommendation, and that signal helps refine the case summary before the next iteration. This ensures the AI's read on the case gets sharper with every cycle and a lawyer stays in the loop throughout.
  • Simplify set up with the intuitive onboarding wizard, which analyzes existing case knowledge to create themes and AI prompts.
  • Reduce document volumes to promote to review to better manage review costs.
  • Refine the case analysis as teams learn more, from third-party production data and new custodians to deposition testimony, so insights stay current without additional manual work.
  • Work the way you want. Nebula AI Case Explorer analyzes documents already in Nebula while providing the option to continue in Nebula for review or promoting to review in Relativity Server or RelativityOne.
  • Get expert support from KLDiscovery's eDiscovery services team when needed and a direct client-to-product feedback model that helps shape future innovation.

                What it gives you

Once an analysis finishes, AI Case Explorer provides:

                • A Case Overview dashboard — an executive summary, corpus statistics, theme distribution, timeline highlights, key storylines, and a key people snapshot, with an exportable memo view.
                • A Document Explorer for searching and filtering your document set by relevance, theme, storyline, and cluster, plus tree map and sunburst visualizations.
                • A Key Docs view of documents the AI flagged as potentially important, ready for further review.
                • A Document Viewer with an AI-generated summary, relevance score and reasoning, and full metadata for any document.
                • Key Themes, Key People, and Key Events views that organize the case around what matters, extracted directly from your documents.
                • AI Relevancy, a feedback loop that turns your agree/disagree review into targeted improvements to your case summary and a re-run analysis.
                • AI Chats, a conversational interface for asking questions about your document set with cited answers — including a newer Agentic mode, currently in Beta.
                • Saved Searches & Docs, a shared hub for your project team's saved work.

                                Document and data source support

AI Case Explorer works with any document type Nebula processes and extracts text from — emails and their attachments (grouped as families), Word documents, PDFs, and Excel files, among others. It also supports Relativity-hosted document sets: data loads into Nebula, is analyzed in AI Case Explorer, and results can be pushed back through Nebula to Relativity — your KLDiscovery team handles the data movement.

                                How you access it

AI Case Explorer is accessed through your existing Nebula login — there are no separate credentials to manage. See Getting Access and Understanding Roles for step-by-step instructions.
